Adjust AOL Browser pop-up controls settings
You can set your pop-up controls any way you'd like them. You can set them to play a sound when a pop-up is blocked, or not to play it, along with several other personal settings.
Note: If there are sites blocked in Internet Explorer Preferences, those sites can be imported into the blacklists for AOL Browser.
Adjust web pop-up controls
Web pop-ups are windows that open separately from the web page window you want to view. Usually these are advertisements, but sometimes they can contain essential information. At AOL.co.uk, when you read your email it opens in what many pop-up blockers consider a pop-up window. Some bill pay websites also use what pop-up blockers consider pop-up windows for bill pay verification.
To adjust your web pop-up controls:
1. Click the Tools menu, then click Pop-up Controls and Set Pop-up Controls Preferences.
2. Set your pop-up controls from the following selections:

Play sound when pop-up is blocked is ticked by default. To turn the sound off, click the box next to this preference to untick it.
- Allow All Pop-ups, Block All Pop-ups and Allow the following sites: enable you to control the amount of pop-ups.
- To allow a web site's pop-ups to display, type the URL in the text box under Allow the following sites: and click the Add button.
3. Click the Save button.
Note: To remove a website's pop-ups from the list of allowed sites, select the website and click the Remove button.
Adjust rich media controls
The use of rich media, which includes elaborate banner ads with pop-up menus, can be controlled through the settings below.
To adjust your rich media controls:
1. Click the Tools menu, then click Pop-up Controls and Set Pop-up Controls Preferences. 2. Set your pop-up controls from the following selections:
- Play Sound when Rich Media is blocked: (default is checked). To turn the sound off, click the box next to this preference to untick it.
- Allow All Rich Media Content: Click this option to select it if you want to allow all rich media content.
- Block Rich Media from the following sites: To block a rich media site from display, type the URL in the text box under Block Rich Media from the following sites:, then click the Add button.
3. Click the Save button.
Note: To allow a website's rich media, select the website and click the Remove button.
