From the 1 November 2009, the call connection fee for standard chargeable calls is changing from 8p to 9.05p, which is the same price as BT. We are also making changes to the per-call charges of some calling features.
Why are AOL Broadband prices changing?
AOL Broadband works tirelessly to offer its customers the best overall value package. We focus on the big areas of value, but for the more obscure prices - like the call connection charges and calling feature rates - we aim to be comparable with our competitors. BT will be increasing its call connection fee to 9.05p from October 2009.
What price changes are we making?
Inclusive calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers
AOL members on Platinum 1, Platinum 2 or Platinum 3 will automatically get inclusive calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers, in line their inclusive calls to 01, 02 and 03 numbers:
- Platinum 2 and 3 customers will get inclusive calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers at all times.
- Platinum 1 customers will get inclusive calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers on evenings and weekends. Daytime calls will be charged at the UK rate of 4.5p per minute.
Connection charges
From 1 November, calls that currently carry an 8p call connection charge will carry instead a 9.05p call connection charge.
This won’t affect inclusive or free calls, such as inclusive 01, 02 and 03 calls or freephone 0800, 0808, 0500 and 999 freephone calls.
Calls that already have a higher call connection charge, such as Directory Enquiries and TV show voting numbers, will also be unaffected.
Are there any other changes?
Yes. Line rental customers who use certain calling features, but don't pay for an unlimited monthly subscription, will now pay slightly higher prices.
Some of the pay-per-use calling feature per-call changes are as follows:
- Call return 1471 (find out the last number that called and press 3) increases to 12p per use.
- Call return 1571(call voicemail and press 0) increases to 12p per use.
Why is the call connection fee increasing again?
We benchmark our connection fee against BT, which will increase its price to 9.05p on 1 October 2009.
However, there are certain BT price increases that AOL Broadband will not be following. BT will increase its daytime rate for 01, 02, 03, 0845 and 0870 calls to 5.25p on the same day, but the AOL Broadband rate will remain at 4.5p per minute.
Do I need to do anything?
No. The changes will happen automatically on your first billing date after 1 November 2009.
