AOL Browser features

Some of the features available with AOL Browser include desktop widgets, themes, page preview, and an RSS screensaver.

Desktop widgets

There are side panels located on the left side of the AOL Browser window. These can be "torn off" and used independently of the AOL Browser experience - creating desktop widgets that you can place wherever you want. Desktop widgets can be resized to meet your needs and will be available for your current windows operating system session, even if you close your browser window.

Note: You cannot create a desktop widget from the History or Favourites side panels. For more information about desktop widgets, see AOL Browser desktop widgets.

Themes

Select one of 16 original themes to customise the look of your AOL Browser. Each theme can be further customised by adjusting the brightness and hue.

For more information about themes, see AOL Browser themes.

Page preview

You can preview web pages from hyperlinks listed on a current web page, allowing you to preview these pages without having to open them. This lets you see where you're going, and makes it easier to identify a particular item in your history, favorites, and hyperlinks.

Notes:
  • Images are not available for all web sites.
  • For security reasons, only "http" links are supported, and frames, JavaScript, and Java applets are disabled for the preview.

For more information about page previews, see AOL Browser page previews.

RSS screensaver

The RSS screensaver feature displays up to 9 RSS feed headlines at a time. In the background are dynamic images that "float" across the screen, based on the actual news articles listed.

The RSS feeds screensaver is not installed automatically. To use the RSS feeds screensaver you will need to install it. For more information, see Install and customise the AOL Browser RSS feeds screensaver.

Each headline in the screensaver will have a number next to it. To view the article corresponding to one of the RSS headlines type the number next to a headline. The article corresponding to the number you typed will be displayed in your default browser.
