How to determine which version of Windows I have
The version of the Microsoft Windows operating system may affect how you perform certain actions like shutting down your computer or accessing the Windows Control Panel.
Determine the Windows Operating System Installed
The winver command will open About Windows which makes it easy to determine which Windows operating system you have installed on your computer.
To determine the Windows operating system installed:
- Click the Start button, then Settings and Control Panel.
For some versions of Windows you will not see Settings. In this case, just click Start and Control Panel. - In the Control Panel double-click the System icon.
- The System window will display the version of Windows that you are using.
