Instant messaging and communication with AIM

The instant message feature allows you to have immediate, one-on-one, private conversations in real time with friends who are online at the same time as you are.

Some communication features require extra components for your computer.

Instant messaging with AIM

To start an instant message:

1. Click the IM icon.
2. In the To: box, enter the screen name of the person to whom you want to send the message.

Note: If the person you want to send an Instant Message to is already in your Buddy List, double-click the screen name.

3. Type your message in the text entry area, then click the Send button.

Communication with AIM

Once an AIM session has been opened, you can switch to a talk session, or exchange files by selecting the appropriate named tab. From the IM screen you can also send an email, text-message to a cell phone number, or start a talk session.

To exchange files or start a talk session simply click the appropriate tab to start the communication feature you wish to use.

Note: Talk sessions require that you and the other person both have the necessary microphone, headphone and USB phone.
