Configure your Netgear DGN2000 modem router
This document describes how to configure the Netgear DGN2000 modem router on a computer running Windows XP or Vista. You can use the Quick Start setup to help you to quickly configure your modem router, or the Advanced setup instructions below for an optimal connection.
We recommend that you print this guide to use as a reference.
Configure the modem router using the Quick Start setup
1. Open Internet Explorer by double-clicking the desktop icon or selecting it from the Start menu.
2. Type http://192.168.1.1 into the Address bar and press Enter on the keyboard.
3. Enter the username and password and click OK.
Note: By default, these are both admin (this is case-sensitive).
4. On the modem router configuration page, click Quick Start.
5. Enter the username and password that you received when you signed up to AOL Broadband.
Note: This is usually your telephone number, followed by @dialbb.com. For example, 0123456789@dialbb.com.
6. Click Enable Wireless (Optional).
7. Enter a name for your wireless network in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box.
8. Enter a password for the network in the Wireless Network Password box. This should something that cannot be easily guessed.
9. Click Connect and close modem router configuration page.
The setup is now complete and you are ready to connect to the internet through your modem router.
Configure the modem router using the Advanced setup

1. Connect the modem router to your computer via the ethernet cable supplied with the router.
2. Open Internet Explorer by double-clicking the desktop icon or selecting it from the Start menu.
3. Type http://192.168.1.1 into the Address bar and press Enter on the keyboard.
4. Enter the username and password and click OK.
Note: By default, these are both admin (this is case-sensitive).
5. Click Advanced and then click OK to the warning message.
6. Click Backup Settings and then click Erase under Revert to Factory Default Settings.
7. Click Yes and wait while the restore completes.
8. Once the process has completed, click OK.
9. Enter the username and password and click OK.
Note: By default, these are both admin (this is case-sensitive).
10. Click Advanced and then click OK to the warning message.
11. Click Basic Settings and set Does Your Internet Connection Require A Login? to Yes.
12. Set Encapsulation to PPPoE (PPP over Ethernet).
13. Enter the username and password that you received when you signed up to AOL Broadband.
Note: This is usually your telephone number, followed by @dialbb.com. For example, 0123456789@dialbb.com.
14. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and click Apply.
15. Select ADSL Settings from the menu on the left.
16. Set Multiplexing Method to LLC-Based and set VPI/VCI to 0/38. Then click Apply.
17. Select WAN Setup under Advanced on the left-hand side.
18. Set the MTU Size to1450 and click Apply.
The setup is now complete and you are ready to connect to the internet.
