Configure your Thomson 576 wireless modem router

Configure your Thomson SpeedTouch 576 on a Windows computer

In order to initially configure your modem router it must be connected to your computer using the supplied ethernet cable. If you are planning to use a wireless connection, the wired connection required here can be disconnected after the configuration is complete and the modem router can be moved to the desired location.

3. When prompted to save the file to a location select an appropriate place (your desktop is a good example).
4. Once the AOL Easy Installer is downloaded, double-click the file: ST_V1.exe
This will launch the modem router installer and show the Welcome screen.
5. Click the Start Installation button to continue. If you wish to cancel, click the Cancel Installation button.
6. Read the next page carefully. The text advises to close any running programs, ensure to close your AOL software also. Click Next to continue.

Notes:

  • The AOL Broadband account to be used for the modem router set-up must be your original master screen name.
  • Connect a DSL filter to each telephone socket that is in use for telephones, dial-up modems and fax machines, etc. If you require additional DSL filters, order online at AOL Keyword Broadband Extras.
  • Ensure to use AOL 8.0 or above.
  • This installer is not supported with a modem router containing beta firmware.

Connect to AOL

To set up AOL to work on your home network, you need to change the settings to connect via your modem router.

1. Start AOL but do not sign on. Instead, click Sign On Options or Connect Options on the sign-on screen.
2. Click Expert Setup.
3. Click Add Location.
4. Type a name for the location in the Location Name box (eg Router), then click Next.
5. Choose Broadband (High-Speed, cable, DSL, or other ISP), then click Next.
6. Tick Automatically reconnect me and ignore interruptions... then click Next.
7. Select Automatic Connection, then click Next.
8. Click Sign on to AOL now, then sign on to AOL as usual using any of your screen names.

The next time you start the AOL software, you'll notice 'Router' (or whatever name you gave the location) is available as one of the options in the Location box. This allows you to easily switch between using a modem router connection and a different connection (for example, a dial-up modem) if you wish.
