The first step in helping your children have the best possible online experience is to create a separate screen name for each child. A screen name gives your children their own online identity. They will use their own password and screen name to sign on.
After they sign on, the software will automatically adjust their access to certain areas of the service and the rest of the internet, based on the level of access you have selected for them using the Parental Controls feature. Your children will need to use this new screen name to access our Kids and Teens chat rooms.
You create their screen name, password, and Parental Controls settings using your master screen name. You decide who they can talk to and where they can go online. Parental Controls settings can only be changed by master screen names.
Master screen names are the first screen name you created when you started your account, and any other screen names that you have designated as master screen names using the Parental Controls feature. Using a master screen name to set the parental controls of your child's account ensures that your children cannot select their own level of access.
Notes:
- A screen name, which is also your email address, is publicly visible while communicating with others online and while using chat and message boards.
- Visit Parental Controls to set the permissions for your child's screen name for email, chat, instant messaging, and web browsing.
