Do I need any special equipment to use ISDN?

In order to connect to AOL using ISDN, you will need:

1. An ISDN-compatible version of the AOL software
2. An ISDN-compatible modem
3. An ISDN phone line

For more details on each of these, read on:

1. All versions of AOL for Windows 5.0 and above are compatible with ISDN. (Please note that Mac versions of AOL currently do not support ISDN.)
If necessary, you can go to http://info.aol.co.uk/downloads to download the latest AOL software for free.

2. ISDN modems come either as internal cards (inside your computer) or external TAs (Terminal Adapters) outside your computer. A TA is the ISDN equivalent of a modem.

At the moment Terminal Adapters are becoming cheaper and cheaper due to the fact that more people are using ISDN than ever before. If you consult your local PC store they should be able to advise you about buying an ISDN terminal adapter and how much they cost.

3. Most importantly, you will need to contact your phone provider and have a special ISDN line installed. They will also be able to answer any questions you may have about ISDN lines.
