If you are using Version 9.0, you can customise the format of your screen name to make it stand out in the Buddy List window. You can change your screen name's font, colour, or colour theme, but you cannot change your screen name itself, or alter the use of capital letters in it. Unfortunately, this feature isn't available in older versions of the software.
To format your screen name:
1. Go to Screen Name, and sign in using your master screen name and password.
2. Next to the screen name you wish to format, click the Customise link.
3. If you want to change your font, click the drop-down menu to open it, choose the font you want to use from the list, then click it.
4. If you want to change your screen name colour click one of the following buttons:
- Font Colour (A): Click this button if you want your screen name to be a solid colour. To select the colour, click the Font Colour (A) button, then click the colour you want.
- Theme (striped): Click this button if you want to apply a colour theme, which puts different colours on each character, to your screen name. To select the theme, click the Theme (striped) button, then click the theme you want.
Note: You cannot give your screen name both a colour and theme. If you choose a colour and then a theme, the theme overrides the colour. The same is true in reverse.
You won't be able to see formatted screen names on your Buddy List window unless you've allowed buddies to use rich text. This setting is turned on by default, but if you're not seeing formatted screen names, you need to turn on rich text display.
To turn on rich text display:
1. Sign on.
2. In the Buddy List window, click the Setup button.
3. Click the IM Settings link.
4. Click the General Buddy tab.
5. Click the Allow rich text display for buddies on my Buddy List window box to place a tick in it.
6. Click the Save button.
7. Click the X in the upper-right corner to close the Buddy List Setup window.
