Before configuring your Nintendo DS to connect wirelessly you will need to know the network name (SSID) of the wireless modem router that you are going to connect to and the WEP encryption key if you have wireless security enabled on the modem router - we recommend enabling security on wireless routers.
If you haven't previously made a note of this information, you will need to access your router's configuration page in order to note down these important settings.
Obtaining wireless settings for your wireless router
Netgear DG834g
1. Open Internet Explorer on a computer connected to the router.
2. Type http://192.168.0.1 and click Go.
3. Enter admin as the username and password as the password, then click Connect.
4. Click Wireless Settings.
This screen contains all of the information your Nintendo DS will require to connect. Note the Name (SSID) under the wireless network heading and the WEP key under the security options.
Thomson Speedtouch
1. Open Internet Explorer on a computer connected to the router.
2. Type http://speedtouch.lan and click Go.
3. Click Home Network.
4. Click the blue link under Wireless (which should be something like WLAN: Speedtouch...).
5. Click Configure in the top-right corner of the screen.
This screen contains all of the information your PSP will require to connect. Note the Network Name (SSID) under the Configuration heading and the WEP encryptions key under the Security heading.
Connect your Nintendo DS
The Setup Utility program is included in all Nintendo WFC compatible Nintendo DS games. This utility program will configure the Nintendo DS to communicate with a wireless router and save the setup information in the memory of the Nintendo DS. Refer to the specific instruction booklet for the Nintendo WFC compatible game you are playing to find out how to access the Setup Utility. It may be different in each game.
Auto Search Option
1. At the Setup screen, tap Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Settings.
2. Tap one of the Connection slots, then Search for an Access Point.
3. The wireless networks which are in range will show in a list. There will be a padlock against the networks detected which will be one of three colours:
- If your Access Point has a blue, unlocked icon, tap the Access Point name, and then OK. The Nintendo DS will establish a connection with your modem router. Go back to the main screen of your game and you're ready to play online.
- If your Access Point has a red, locked icon, the Nintendo DS has detected WEP security on your modem router. Tap the Access Point name on the Nintendo DS, then enter the WEP key for your modem router on the following screen. Tap OK to save the settings.
Tap OK again and the Nintendo DS will establish a connection with your modem router. Go back to the main screen of your game and your ready to play online.
- If your Access Point has a grey, locked icon, the Nintendo DS has determined your modem router's security settings are not supported by the Nintendo DS. In order to connect to the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, you will need to either switch to WEP security, or remove the security setting of your modem router when connecting with the Nintendo DS.
