How can I protect my privacy in a chat room?
- Don't include personal information in the profile for your screen name, particularly your full name, address and telephone number.
- Ideally, use a gender-neutral and age-neutral screen name when chatting.
- Don't include your surname in your screen name.
- To avoid spam, use a separate screen name just for chat. You can create additional screen names when you go to AOL Keyword: Screen Names.
- Sign on to AOL and use AOL Keyword: Notify AOL if you need to report inappropriate chat.
- Be very careful about arranging a face-to-face meeting with someone you meet online.
- Most chat rooms are organised around topics, so avoid topics you're not comfortable with.
