This document describes how to install the Thomson SpeedTouch 120 wireless adapter on Windows XP. We recommend that you print this guide to use as a reference.
The Speedtouch 120 wireless (ST120) adapter is a Wi-Fi certified 802.11b wireless USB adapter, for use in laptops or desktops with a free USB port to connect to a wireless network.
Install and connect your wireless adapter
Important: As this is a USB device you must begin the installation before connecting the adapter to your PC
1. Insert the CD into your CD-ROM drive.
2. When the Wireless LAN Wizard page appears, click Install a New Product.
3. Click Install Drivers and Client Manager.
Note: This will automatically start the installation of the necessary Windows drivers. You do not need to do anything at this stage, simply wait for the installation to complete.
4. Click Install Hardware.
5. Select Connect USB?Client, and click Next to continue.
6. Connect the USB cable to a free USB port on the computer and ensure the other end is connected to the adapter.
7. Click Next to continue.
Add your computer to your wireless network
The final step is to tell the adapter to contact the router and for the router to accept the connection.
1. Click Windows XP Wireless Network Connection.
2. A screen of instructions will appear, telling you how to enable your wireless connection.
IMPORTANT: Please disregard the instructions on this screen and follow the instructions below.
3. Click Start, then Connect to, and Wireless Network Connection.
4. Select the wireless network you wish to use and click Connect.
5. You will be prompted to enter a Network Key. AOL's Easy Installer will have automatically generated this key from the password you entered when you setup your modem router. The network key will be saved on the C: drive of the PC that was used to configure the modem router, in a file called md5key.txt.
6. Once located, enter this key into the Network Key boxes.
7. Click Connect.
8. The network list will display that you are successfully connected to the wireless network.
When the drivers are fully installed and the device is functional, the SpeedTouch icon in your system tray will change from empty bars to green bars (depending on signal strength).
