How do I adjust my ZoneAlarm settings?

AOL does not provide support for third party software, including firewall software. Nor is it possible for AOL to provide information on every firewall program to enable it to work with AOL. The steps below for ZoneAlarm are provided for your information, and we recommend you use them with discretion.

Before you follow these steps, we would suggest you print a copy, as ideally, all other programs should be closed.

To set ZoneAlarm to work with AOL please try the following steps:

  1. Close any open programs.
  2. Start the ZoneAlarm program.
  3. Locate the Security settings (there will be two settings one for Local and one for Internet).
  4. Set the Internet setting to Medium.
  5. Next locate the list of programs ZoneAlarm has information about.
  6. Remove any entries for AOL and Microsoft Internet Explorer.

The next time you connect, ZoneAlarm will ask if AOL and Internet Explorer should be allowed to connect. Tick the box to remember the answer and then click Yes.

Note: These steps apply to the freeware version of ZoneAlarm and not to ZoneAlarm Pro. To adjust the settings in ZoneAlarm Pro (or any other firewall program), please consult the manual or help file for the program.
