2. Click the Email Settings link.
3. Select your email preferences and click Save.

Preference Descriptions

Reading email
  • Play sound when new email is delivered: When you select this preference (which is under the Advanced tab), a sound is played each time a new message arrives in your mailbox, as long as your mailbox is not empty. If it is empty, you´ll hear the familiar 'You´ve got email!' announcement.

  • Show addresses as Buddy Info links: When you select this preference (which is under the Advanced tab), an icon will appear next to the screen name of each user who is signed on at the time you are reading a piece of email. Clicking a hyperlinked address in the email header (the portion at the top of an email message) will provide a list of options such as sending email, adding the person to your Address Book, and more (the precise set of options you see depends on whether the person is a member, and whether he or she is signed on when you click the link). If you turn this preference off, clicking a hyperlinked address in an email header will simply bring up a new Write Email window with the person's address already in the Send To: field.

  • Notify me before opening email containing pictures: When you select this preference (which is under the General tab), a confirmation window appears each time you open email that contains an imbedded image. If you don't know the person who sent it, you may not want to view the email, as it could contain an objectionable image. Selecting this preference does not prevent you from opening email that contains an image.

  • Display next message when current message is deleted: When you select this preference (which is under the Advanced tab), if you click Delete when you have a piece of email open, the next message in the list opens automatically. Otherwise, the remaining list of email appears.

  • Keep my old email online __ days after I read it: When you select this preference (which is under the General tab), you can adjust the number in the box to increase (maximum of seven days) or decrease the length of time that old email remains in your online mailbox.

  • Sort email in my mailbox by __: When you select this preference (which is under the General tab), you can choose how messages will be sorted by default each time you open your mailbox.

-- Type: Email is sorted according to who sent it; people you know, bulk senders, and then unknown senders. You can reverse this order by clicking the Type column in the mailbox.
-- Date (newest at top): Your most recently received email is displayed at the top of the list.
-- Date (newest at bottom): The email that has been in your mailbox the longest is displayed at the top of the list.
-- Email address: Messages are stored by sender (or recipient if viewing Sent Email).
-- Subject: Email is sorted alphabetically according to its subject line.

Writing email:
  • Present resizing options when inserting pictures in email: When you select this preference (which is labelled Present picture quality options when inserting pictures and is found under the Advanced tab), a selection window appears when you insert a picture into your email so you can select whether or not to resize the picture. Otherwise, pictures will be inserted into your email without resizing.

  • Use my Address Book and Buddy List to auto-suggest names: When you select this preference (which is under the Advanced tab), as you begin to type an email address in the Write Email window, matches from your Address Book or Buddy List will be suggested so that you can finish addressing the email without typing.

Sending email:
  • Confirm email that has been sent: When you select this preference (which is under the General tab), a confirmation window appears each time you send email.

  • Close email after it has been sent: When you select this preference (which is under the Advanced tab), the Write Email window closes automatically after you send the email.

  • Confirm when email is marked to send later: When you select this preference (which is under the Advanced tab), a confirmation window will appear when you click Send Later.

  • Perform a spell check before sending email: When you select this preference (which is under the General tab on), the spelling checker will check your email when you click Send Now. To send email without checking the spelling when this preference is set, hold the Ctrl key down when you click Send Now.

  • Remind me at Sign On if I have email waiting to be sent:
When you select this preference (which is under the Advanced tab), a confirmation window appears when you sign on, if you have email waiting to be sent.
