How do I choose my pop-up preferences?

Pop-ups are secondary windows that appear in front of the page you are viewing when you use the service or explore the web using the software. There are two kinds of pop-ups: member-only special offers and pop-ups that are displayed by web sites you visit.

We give you the ability to control the pop-ups you may receive when using the software. You can choose to allow pop-ups from specific sites you designate, or to have the software block all pop-ups.

Note: Some new kinds of pop-ups can appear even if you aren't surfing the web. Find out how to disable Windows Messenger pop-ups.

To choose your preferences for pop-ups from web sites:

  1. Sign on and go to Pop-Up Controls.
  2. Do one or more of the following:
    • To control pop-ups from web sites you visit, click on the radio button next to Block Web pop-ups.
    • To specify a site from which you wish to allow pop-ups, click on the radio button next to Allow only the web pop-ups listed below, then type in the web address (e.g. www.aol.co.uk) in the white field and then click Add (repeat for each site you'd like to receive pop-ups from).
    • Choose whether the software should Play a sound when a web site pop-up has been blocked by clicking in the tick box.
  3. Click Save.

Notes:

  • The preferences you specify apply only to the screen name with which you are signed on to the service when you set them.
  • Because there are a number of different ways to make web pages, we cannot guarantee that all pop-ups will be blocked.
  • The preferences you choose apply only when you are using the software to visit Web sites. If you use a browser outside the software, such as Internet Explorer or Firefox, the pop-up controls will not be in effect.
  • You can change your preferences or add web sites to your 'allow list' at any time.

To choose your preferences for member-only special offers:
(This refers to the pop-up messages you may see immediately after you sign on.)

  1. Sign-on and go to Pop-Up Controls, then click on the Special Offers tab.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • To block all offers, click on the radio button next to Block member-only special offers.
    • To allow all offers, click on the radio button next to Allow member-only special offers.
  3. Click Save.

Notes:

  • If you opt to block member-only special offers, you may continue to receive some offers whilst your request is processed. Your preference will apply only for the screen name with which you are currently signed on to the service.
  • From time to time we may still contact you via pop-up to deliver important information about features and services or your account.
  • If you cancel your membership and reactivate your account using the same account number, your request to display or not display member-only special offers will continue to apply.
  • You can change your preferences at any time.
