How do I close my programs?

To close your programs, follow the steps for your version of Microsoft Windows below:

Windows 7, Vista, XP and 2000 users

To close programs on a computer running Windows 7, Vista, XP or 2000, follow these steps:

  1. Hold down the Ctrl and Alt keys simultaneously on the keyboard and then press the Delete key once.
  2. Click Task Manager or Start Task Manager, then click the Applications tab. This will open the Task Manager screen which will list all the programs running on the computer.
  3. From that list of programs, its is only necessary to keep running Explorer, Systray and RunDll, if they appear. Highlight the first program in that list that isn't any of the necessary items above and click on End Task.
  4. Another window may appear, saying 'This program is not responding', click End Now.
  5. Repeat the same steps to close the programs until only Explorer and Systray (and RunDll if present) remain in the list.
  6. To close the Windows Task Manager click the X in the top right corner of the window.

Please note: If you are using an ISDN (Home highway) line to connect, you must also keep CFOSOEM or CFOSDW running. If you are using AOL Broadband to connect, keep DSL Agent running.
