How do I compose and format rich text on AOL Mail?

About the Rich Text / HTML editor

There are many options for customizing how your text appears in your AOL Mail e-mail. These options allow you to show your creativity and individuality online. In the AOL Write Mail window formatting text is done by using the text styling toolbar, located just above the box where you type your e-mail message. It contains a number of formatting features, for example text color, centering, or bolding.

Select the Rich Text / HTML editor

When you select the Rich Text/HTML editor, your AOL Write Mail window will include a formatting toolbar above the large text box where you type your e-mail message.

To select the Rich Text/HTML editor:

Note: To enable the Rich Text/HTML Editing feature, click the Switch to rich text editor link, in the write mail window.

1. On the AOL Mail window, click the Settings link.
2. In the left panel, click the Compose tab.
3. In the Compose page, click the Use Rich Text / HTML Editing box to place a check mark in it.
4. Above the Compose page, click the Save button.

Text font

Click the Text Font drop-down menu to open it, choose a font you want to use from the list, then click it. The default font for e-mail is Verdana.

Text size

Click the Text Size drop-down menu to open it, choose the size you want your text to be from the list, then click it. The larger the number, the bigger the letters will appear.

Bold

Click the Bold button to make the letters in the highlighted text appear thicker.

Italics

Click the Italics button to make the letters in the highlighted text appear slanted.

Underline

Click the Underline button to underline the highlighted text.

Font color

Highlight the text you wish to give a different color. Click the Select text color icon, click to choose the color in which you wish your text to appear. This will change the color of your text.

Note: If you select the same color for both the text and the background color, the text will seem to disappear. To see the text again, select a different text or background color.

Background color

Highlight the text to which you wish to give a background color. Click the Select text background color icon, click to select the color. This will change the color of the background of your text.

Format

There are eight formatting buttons offered on the text styling bar. The buttons from left to right are:

Justify left: This button will line up all the highlighted text with the left margin. Left alignment is the default alignment for text in e-mail.
Justify Center: This button will center all the highlighted text lines on the page.
Justify Right: This button will line up all the highlighted text with the right margin.
Numbered List: This button will create a numbered list from the highlighted text.
Bulleted List: This button will create a bulleted list from the highlighted text.
Increase Indent: This button will indent all the highlighted text.
Decrease Indent: This button will reduce the indentation of all the highlighted text.
Horizontal line: This button will insert a horizontal line.
