How do I create a secure password?
Secure or strong passwords are hard to guess but easy to remember. To create a strong password, use the following guidelines:
- Make your password at least 6 characters in length.
- A good way to create a strong password and remember it later
is to make up an acronym based on the title of a song, book or sentence. For example:
-- 'I Heard It Through The Grapevine' (ihittg)
-- 'She has four brothers and two sisters' (sh4ba2s)
- Do not use the names of friends, pets, sports teams, telephone numbers, or any other item of significance to you as a
password. - Do not use any single word which can be found in a dictionary as a password. A much stronger password can be made by joining two unrelated words together, for example 'dogcar'.
- Use a combination of letters and numbers.
- Intentionally mis-spell a word, such as 'feetball' instead of 'football', or substitute numbers for words, such as '4ever' instead of 'forever'.
