How do I make AOL my default web browser?

If you do not use any other Internet Service Provider, you may find it convenient to make AOL your preferred application for web browsing and email.

This will associate AOL with all types of internet file on your computer - so, for example, if you double-click on a HTML document on your hard drive, the AOL software will launch automatically, and if necessary will even automatically connect to the Internet for you (you will be prompted for your AOL password if you do not have it stored).

To make AOL your preferred internet application using AOL 9.0 VR:

  1. Sign-on to AOL and go to AOL Keyword: Preferences.
  2. Click on the A-Z tab and then click on the AOL as Default link.
  3. Click OK.

To make AOL your preferred internet application using AOL 8.0 and below:

  1. Sign-on to AOL and go to AOL Keyword: Preferences.
  2. Click Association.
  3. Click OK.

Please note: It is no longer possible to make AOL your preferred application for Newsgroups as direct access to Usenet Newsgroups has been discontinued.
