How do I perform a HyperTerminal test?

A HyperTerminal test can be a useful procedure to help diagnose problems with dial-up connections. It allows you to access your modem directly (outside the AOL software) and check to see if it can successfully dial a number. This can help indicate whether a problem lies with your modem, your phone line or with your AOL software configuration.

  1. Click Start and select Run.
  2. Type hypertrm then click OK.
  3. Type test and click OK.
  4. Enter the access number you are attempting to use and click Dial.
After a successful test, you should see the prompt: Login.

If the modem fails to dial, please contact your PC vendor for technical support.
