How to stay connected
Fix common broadband connection problems with the following steps:
Ensure you use a filter for every device that uses your telephone line. This includes fax machines, answering machines, cordless phones, some alarm systems and television set-top boxes (for example Sky TV).
We recommend that for the best broadband connection you should use the master phone socket, because this is where the broadband signal strength is strongest. If you need a telephone extension cable to do this, do not use one more than 10 metres long, and make sure that it has an RJ11 connector at each end. Also please ensure that a filter has not been placed on both ends of the extension cable.
For optimum connection, make sure you have no more than four phone sockets with filters in your home, otherwise your broadband service will be affected. If you have more than four devices, please unplug the extra devices.
Empty your temporary internet files and defrag your hard drive. Also, run Computer Check-Up regularly to help solve connection problems automatically. To download Computer Check-Up, please sign-on to your AOL software and visit Keyword: Computer Check-Up.
Download the McAfee® Personal Firewall Plus that is available at no extra cost with your Broadband account, to protect your computer from hackers. Go to AOL Keyword: Firewall to download McAfee® Personal Firewall Plus.
