Install and customise the AOL Browser RSS feeds screensaver

This article provides instructions for installing and customising the RSS screensaver feature available with AOL Browser.

You may wish to print or save a copy of these instructions as this page may not remain visible as you go through the suggested steps.

About RSS feeds and the RSS screensaver feature

RSS (also called Rich Site Summary, RDF Site Summary, or Real-time Simple Syndication) is a type of web feed format used for distribution or syndication from an online publisher to web users. RSS feeds deliver web content or summaries of web content as Extensible Markup Language (XML) files called RSS feeds. Widely used by websites that want to publish some of their content, such as news headlines, stories, or multimedia files, RSS feeds are available from many major news organisations to distribute news headlines and other information, as well as from weblogs (blogs) and podcasters.

The RSS screensaver feature available with AOL Browser displays up to 9 RSS feed headlines at a time. In the background are dynamic images that 'float' across the screen, based on the actual news articles listed. Each headline in the screensaver will have a number next to it.

To view the article corresponding to one of the RSS headlines, type the number next to a headline. The article corresponding to the number you typed will be displayed in your default browser.

For more information about RSS feeds, see RSS Feeds for AOL Browser.

Customise the RSS feeds listed in the RSS feeds screen saver

The RSS screen saver feature displays up to 9 RSS feed headlines at a time. The RSS feeds shown are based on the list of feeds that you have in your AOL Browser Feeds side panel.

To update the RSS feeds displayed in the screen saver, add or remove feeds from your Feeds side panel.

For more information about customising the Feeds side panel, see RSS Feeds for AOL Browser.

The time-delay and password settings for the RSS Screen Saver feature are handled by the display properties settings of the Windows operating system.

To adjust the screen saver settings:

1. On your Windows desktop, right-click to display the options menu, then click Properties.
2. Click the Screen Saver tab.
3. Ensure AOL Feeds Screensaver is listed in the Screen Saver drop-down list, then adjust the time-delay and password settings as you would for any other screen saver.
4. Click the OK button to close the Display Properties window.
