You can install or reinstall a new copy of AOL software from an installation CD or download the software from AOL on the web.
You may wish to print or save a copy of these instructions, as this page may not remain visible as you go through the suggested steps.
You will need to know what version of the Microsoft Windows operating system is installed on your computer. If you do not know how to find this information, follow the instructions found at: How to determine which version of Windows I have.
Warning: Before you start the installation process, it is recommended that you exit all other programs that may be running on your computer to avoid any conflicts and complete the connection setup process.
Install or reinstall AOL software as an existing AOL member
Using an AOL CD or by downloading the software at AOL Keyword: Upgrade you can install another copy of AOL software or upgrade your existing copy to the latest version by following these simple steps:
1. Once the installation program starts, click the Current Member button.
2. Select one of the options listed below, then click the Next button.
- Upgrading to a new version of AOL on this computer: This will install a new copy of AOL software on your computer, and will automatically transfer your stored e-mail, downloaded files, and preferences from the previous copy to the new copy.
- Adding your existing account to this computer: This will install a new copy of AOL software. It does not transfer any information from other copies of AOL software that may already be present on your computer. However, the previous or last used copy will no longer be visible.
- Creating an additional AOL account on this computer: This will install a new copy of AOL software. It does not transfer any information from other copies of AOL software that may already be present on the computer, but allows the last used copy to be displayed, in addition to the newly installed copy.
Note: If you chose to upgrade, the installation program will search for the most recently used copy of AOL software on your computer. To copy settings from this version, simply click Next. To copy settings from a different version, click Search for additional versions of the AOL software, click the Next button, then follow the onscreen instructions to choose the copy of AOL software you wish to upgrade.
3. On the Select Destination Directory screen, click Next to install the software in the standard location (e.g. C:Program FilesAOL 9.0 VR). The installation process will start copying files from the CD to your computer. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the process.
