Online issues

Please select from the list below to find step-by-step instructions to help resolve online issues.

Internet freezing / slowness online

Slowness online suggests that your computer may have a system health issue or that your AOL software may have become corrupt. Follow these instructions to improve your computer's system health and ensure that the AOL software is working optimally.

Unexpected disconnections from AOL Broadband

The AOL software can disconnect abnormally for a number of reasons – for example, when using a long extension lead, or having an incorrect physical setup or faulty filters.

Follow these step-by-step instructions to help diagnose what is causing the AOL software to disconnect.

Problems viewing web sites

If a web site doesn't load on the first attempt, try again using the Refresh button. If the problem continues to occur, and you receive errors such as 'Page cannot be displayed' or 'Web site not responding', try these troubleshooting steps.

Problems viewing secure web sites

Online banking, online shopping and other online services that transfer sensitive information such as credit card details use secured log-in sites to ensure that transactions are protected.

There are a number of possible reasons why you may not be able to access secure sites – for example, if you try to access them with an older browser, or if your browser's security settings are incorrect.

After each of these troubleshooting steps, close the AOL software and Internet Explorer, then sign on again and test before proceeding.

Spyware and unwanted pop-ups

Currently, the main purpose of spyware appears to be to monitor the sites that you visit on the internet and cover your screen with unwanted pop-ups and targeted advertisements that slow your computer.

We recommend that you run spyware protection such as Ad-Aware or Spybot - Search & Destroy regularly.
