Parental Controls

Parental Controls
What are Parental Controls?

Parental Controls are a free easy-to-use feature that allows parents to control their children's online experiences.
Parents can choose from three levels of protection for each child and, if they wish, they can further fine-tune access to email, instant messages, chat rooms, premium services, and web sites.

When the free AOL Parental Controls software is installed on your computer, your child will be able to surf the Internet and visit age-appropriate Web sites based on his/her age group.

The software enforces the AOL Parental Controls protections no matter what browser your family uses (AOL Client or Browser, Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator). All users must sign-in to AOL Parental Controls before going online. Requiring password access to Internet-related programs reduces the risk of children encountering potential threats or inappropriate websites while online.

We’ve made AOL Parental Controls extremely easy to set up and use. It takes about ten minutes to set it up with our simple to use online set up. Once you’ve set up, you’re done! You and your kids simply sign in, once, each time you go online and we help reduce the risk of them encountering inappropriate websites online. To set it up, click on the link below!

WEB BROWSING

AOL offers three levels of Web Browsing Controls so that you can choose what's best for your individual child's age and maturity.

Customize Web Browsing Controls for a Child's Screen Name As parents, you should get to know your children's online friends and favorite online areas, just as you know their neighborhood friends and what they watch on television.

If you encounter a Web site that you feel should be accessible to your child but it is not or you encounter a Web site that you think should be restricted from your child, you can allow/ block the specific Web site using Web Browsing Controls.

Remember, there is no better safeguard than parental supervision!
To block or allow a site:
1. Go to http://parentalcontrols.aol.co.uk
2. In the User Name section, click the desired screen name.
