You have the option of assigning a nickname or a friendly name to each of your contacts listed with the AIM® 6.1 service. In this way, you get to display your contacts with the friendly names you have assigned instead of their screen names.

View friendly names

In AIM® 6.1, you can view either your buddy's friendly name (nickname) or their screen name.

To view friendly names:
1. Sign on to the AIM service.
2. On the Buddy List window, click the View menu, and then click Friendly Names.


View contacts by screen name

You have the option to view all your contacts by their screen names.

To view contacts by screen name:
1. Sign on to the AIM service.
2. On the Buddy List window, click the View menu, and then click Friendly Names to clear the tick next to it.


Change the friendly name

You can add or change a buddy's nickname or friendly name at any time.

To change the friendly name:
1. Sign on to the AIM service.
2. On the Buddy List window, right-click the contact name you wish to edit, then click Edit Buddy....
3. In the Nickname: box, edit the nickname for your buddy, then click the Save button.
