What is a credit reference agency, and what's in my credit file?

Credit reference agencies provide information to assist with credit making decisions and to prevent fraud. This information is called a credit reference file or credit report. The report contains information such as:

1. Your payment history with other companies you have credit with eg mortgage, credit card, catalogue account.
2. Your electoral roll history.
3. Recent applications you have made for credit.
4. County court judgements.
