Work with folders on AOL WebSuite Basic version
On AOL WebSuite Basic, your folders are displayed in the Folder List box located to the left pane of the AOL Mail window. The list includes six system folders, and any personal folders you create.
About folders
Personal folders are a handy way to organize your e-mails. You can create folders to store e-mails by subject, sender, or any other criteria that suits your needs. You can also rename and delete your personal folders.
The six system folders cannot be renamed or deleted. Each system folder has a specific purpose in AOL WebSuite Basic.

Folder contents
New Mail: This folder contains new e-mail messages from authorized senders. There can be a maximum of 1,000 e-mails in this folder.
Notes:
E-mail messages will be automatically moved to your Old Mail folder after they have been read. Unread e-mail messages will be automatically deleted from your New Mail folder after 30 days. Optionally, you can change your display settings to show a unified Inbox folder, instead of the New Mail and Old Mail folders.
Old Mail: This folder contains e-mail messages that have already been read. There can be a maximum of 550 e-mails in this folder. Notes:
E-mail messages will be automatically deleted from your Old Mail folder after 30 days. Optionally, you can change your display settings to show a unified Inbox folder, instead of the New Mail and Old Mail folders.
Sent: This folder contains copies of e-mail messages you have sent. There can be a maximum of 550 e-mails in this folder.
Note: E-mail messages in this folder are automatically deleted after 30 days.
Spam: This folder contains e-mail messages you have reported as spam. There can be a maximum of 250 e-mails in this folder.
Notes:
E-mail deleted from the Spam folder is deleted permanently from the AOL service. Visibility of the Spam folder for all Teen and Kids Only accounts will depend on the Parental Controls settings.
E-mail messages in this folder are automatically deleted after 3 days. Recently Deleted: This folder contains e-mails you deleted from other folders. Note: E-mail messages remain in this folder for 7 days before they are automatically and permanently deleted. Before this time, you can read, retrieve, or permanently delete an e-mail.
My Folders: This folder is a special folder that allows you to permanently save messages online on the AOL servers. You can store an unlimited number of e-mails and attachments.
IMs: This folder contains all the chat conversations that you have saved. Once you save a chat conversation, it is stored in this folder. Later, if you wish to you can move it to a folder of your choice.
Create a Folder
You can create your own folders on your AOL WebSuite Basic account, to help organize your e-mail. The new folder will be added to your My Folders list.
To create a folder:
1. On the AOL Mail window, next to the My Folders tab, click the Manage Folders link.
2. Click the New Folder button.
3. A window pops up giving you a box to type the name you want to give to the new folder. Click the OK button once you have finished typing the name.
Note: The name of your folder can be any combination of letters and numbers. The name cannot begin with a space, % or #, and it cannot contain , :, *, ?, "", <, >, |, or %.
4. Click the OK button again to confirm the changes.
Delete Folders for AOL WebSuite Basic Version
Folders used on AOL WebSuite can be deleted to customize and organize your mail. You can delete a personal folder, but you cannot delete any of the system-generated folders. When you delete a folder, the contents are deleted immediately.
To delete folders:
1. Next to My Folders tab, click the Manage Folders link.
2. Navigate to the folder you would like to delete, then click the Delete Folder button.
3. Click the OK button.
4. Click the OK button again.
Save Mail Permanently to Your Saved Mail Folder
The Saved Mail folder is a special folder that allows you to permanently save messages online on the AOL servers. The Saved Mail folder is not stored on your computer, so it can be accessed from another computer when you sign on to the AOL service as a guest.
When your Saved Mail folder is approaching 2 GB in size, you will receive an automated e-mail or an alert asking you to verify the need for additional space. For verification purposes, enter the alphanumeric code displayed in the image box presented to you. This image verification helps prevent automatic processes (scripts) from compromising your account and abusing the mail storage system.
Note: If you do not see an image, please select the Can't see the image? link. This link provides an audio version of the alphanumeric code to enter for verification.
To save e-mail to the Saved Mail folder using AOL WebSuite basic version:
1. Click the current folder in which the mail exists.
2. Click the box next to the mail to place a check mark in it.
3. Click the Actions drop-down menu.
4. In the Move to: section, click Saved Mail, then click the Go button.
Rename Folders for AOL WebSuite Basic
AOL WebSuite Basic allows you to personalize folders for ease of organizing your mail.
To rename a folder:
1. Next to the My Folders tab, click the Manage Folders link.
2. Navigate to the folder you wish to rename, then click the Rename button.
3. Click the OK button to confirm.
Note: The following reserved characters are not allowed in folder names: , :, *, ?, "", <, >, |, %. You can rename a personal folder, but you cannot rename any of the five system folders.
Empty the Contents of a Folder Using AOL WebSuite Basic
You can empty an entire folder with just a click when using AOL WebSuite Basic. The following instructions will guide you through the steps to empty a folder using AOL WebSuite Basic. When you empty a folder, the contents are deleted immediately. If a folder is already empty, the Empty Folder button will be greyed out.
To empty the contents of a folder using AOL WebSuite Basic:
1. Next to the My Folders tab, click the Manage Folders link.
2. Navigate to the folder you wish to empty, then click the Empty Folder link.
3. Click the OK button.
