Don't get locked out of your AOL account. Keep a valid mobile phone number or email address on your account in case you ever lose your password or run into a prompt to verify your account after signing in. We'll also include your recovery email address when sending a notification of changes made to your account.

Add a mobile phone number

1. Go to the AOL Account security page.
2. Click Phone numbers.
3. Click Add recovery phone number.
4. Follow the on-screen prompts to enter and verify your new info.

Tip icon.Remove a mobile phone number - Use steps 1 and 2, then click the Delete icon Image of the delete icon. by the unwanted number.

Add an alternate email address

1. Go to the AOL Account security page.
2. Click Add recovery email address.
- If you don't see this option, click Email addresses first.
3. Follow the on-screen prompts to enter and verify your new info.

To remove a recovery email address, go to the AOL Account security page and click Email addresses. Click the Delete icon Image of the delete icon. by the unwanted address.

Unlink recovery info from an unused or unrecognized account

Before disconnecting a phone number or email address, you’ll need to be signed out of the associated account.

1. Go to the Sign-in Helper.
2. Enter your mobile phone number or alternate email address.
3. Click Continue.
4. Click Yes, text me a verification code.
- We'll send a verification code to your phone or email address.
5. Without leaving this page, retrieve the code and enter it in the field provided.
6. Click Verify.
7. Click Continue.
8. At the bottom of a list of your connected recovery accounts, click remove it here.
9. Select an account to remove.
10. Click Remove this account.
