Create and manage 3rd-party app passwords
If you use a 3rd-party email app to access your AOL Mail account, you may need a special code to give that app permission to access your AOL account. Learn how to create and delete app passwords.
App passwords remain active - even if you change your main account password. To invalidate an app password you must delete it
Generate an app password
When creating an app password, use a browser that you've used to sign into AOL Mail for several days in a row and avoid using Incognito mode. If this isn’t successful, use webmail or the official AOL App to access your email.
- Sign in to your AOL Account Security page.
- Click Generate app password or Generate and manage app passwords.
- Click Get Started.
- Enter your app's name in the text field.
- Click Generate password.
- Use the one-time password to log in to your 3rd party app .
- Click Done.
Delete an app password
- Sign in to your AOL Account Security page.
- Click Generate and manage app passwords.
- Click Delete next to the app password you want to delete.
- Click Delete to confirm.
